Naan Raatchasanlaa..

I haven't posted any scene split-ups about Raavanan till date. When a friend asked something to share from that film, I decided to write about my favorite scene in the film. Scene where everything literally gets clear in the plot.

There is an epic touch in the scene with Ragini being tied in a tree like how Seetha was caged under a tree in Ashokavanam.

Throughout the scene there are many subtle moments like Ragini holding the life saving rope when Veera looks down a deep valley, Veera blindfolding Ragini at the very end of the scene (which indicates how the character graph of Ragini with Veera ends the same way like it began.), Cues of A.R. Rahman - so serene, pure as Veera's love for the abducted gelling well with the location which is nothing but nature, Santosh Sivan's signature skin tones (almost all shots with Ragini holding the gun.. particularly one when focus changes between her face and her hand with the gun.), Suhasini's dialogues for Veera when he gives Ragini two options, to shoot either in his head to smash his brain or at his chest to crash his heart.
                                 

"அவர எங்க? என்னாச்சி?"

"அவரு மட்டும் ஸ்ரீ ராமரு.
நாங்க எல்லாம் பத்து தல ராவணன் இல்ல?"

"அவருக்கு ஒன்னும் ஆகலையே?
இதுக்கு மேல கெஞ்ச முடியாது.
பதில் சொல்லுங்க.
சொல்லுங்க."

"இத பிடிங்க. "

(gives his gun. She blinks. He forcibly puts it in her hand.)
"உயிரோட தான இருக்காரு?"

(Veera smiles.)
"கடைசியா பார்த்தப்போ திடமா போஸாக்க இருந்தாரு.
பாலத்துல தொங்கிட்டு கெடந்தாரு.
ஒத்தக்கையில..
ம்ம்ம்..
கோவமா..
வீரமா..
ஹீரோ மாதிரி.

பலமா புடிங்கன..
விட்டுற கிட்டுற போறீக..
உங்க S.P எங்க கெடக்காருனு எட்டி பாத்துட்டு சொல்லுதேன்.

(Ragini ties the rope of Veera in the tree where he has tied her.)

டன்.. டன்.. டன்..
எங்க? எங்க? எங்க?
S.P!
தா.. அந்தா கெடக்காருலா S.P!.

நம்ப மாட்டீய.. பாம்பு மாதிரிலா மேல ஊர்ந்து வந்துட்டுருக்காக.

S.P!! ஓய்!"

"எனக்காக ஒன்னு செய்வீங்களா?"

"சாமி தான் வரம் கொடுக்கும். நான் ராட்சசன்லா?"

(that typical self declaration of their evilness one can easily get from ManiRatnam's chaotic characters. In Inba, Bergmans milieu..)

"என் புருசன கொன்னுடாதீங்க."

"மேல வந்தேனா ஒத்தைக்கு ஒத்த.."

"என்னால இந்த கயிற விட்டுட முடியும்."

"ஒரு மிருகம் தான் உசுரோட மிஞ்சும்."

"இல்ல இதால சுட்டுட முடியும்."

"நீங்க யார் மேல பந்தயம்.."

(before completing it, He stands stunned with this unexpected statement from Ragini. One of the best reactions Vikram has given till date comes now. <After Sethu & Pidhamagan, Raavanan is where I lost myself in the character played by Vikram. He is so lively, dynamic and chaotic as Veera.>)

"நான் என்ன உங்க கைல தோட்டாவோட துப்பாக்கி கொடுப்பேன்னு நெனச்சீகளோ?"

(She see the gun for a second and triggers it. <BOOM>)

"என்ன கொல்ல பிறந்த பெரிய ஆசாமி யாருடேனு இவ்வளோ வருசமாலா தேடிட்டு கெடந்தேன்.

சுடுங்க.

இங்கன சுட்டா பத்தே நிமிஷம் தான்.
மனசுல இருக்குற கண்றாவி சஞ்சலம் வேதனை கூடவே உசுரும் போய்டும்!

ஆனா இங்க சுட்டா ஒரே நொடி.

நெனப்பு
பிரியம்
ஆச
மூச்சு.. எல்லாம் ஒண்ணா போய்டும்..

வலிக்காது.

உங்கள இப்படியே..
சந்தோஷமா பாத்துக்கிட்டே..
சிரிச்சுக்கிட்டே..
சரிஞ்சிருவேன்."

"நான் இங்க இருந்துட்டா அவர விட்டுருவீங்களா?"

(The most crucial moment in the film comes here. She just said that. That is what he was dying to hear.)

"இருப்பீகளா?"

(Veera comes closer. And she avoids his eye contact, well explaining their mental states.)

"நெசமாவே?"

(And then.. Veera blindfolds her.)

"என்ன செய்றீங்க?"

(One of the shots that struck with me when I came out of the theater. The scene ends with the second knot of Veera blindfolding her. <which can be a biggest surprise for long time followers of Mani Ratnam to see how he has evolved as a film-maker and narrator in a span of 30 years>)

P.S : Have read a tweet by some anonymous in twitter which goes like "That urge to watch Raavanan now. The world that the film tries to create, every one's effort towards it and particularly music is excellent."

Isn't that a damn truth?
